SRA ties-up with Carnegie for its education venture

SRA Systems limited; the Chennai based software house is now venturing into education segment. The company has recently tied up with Carnegie Technology Education (CTE), a wing of Carnegie Mellon University, USA, the world’s premier University in Computer Science.

SRA is launching a separate division – ‘SRA Carnegie Software Education’ for the purpose. This division would cater to aspirants who would want make a career in the IT industry. SRA is setting up a Training centre in Chennai with all facilities including Internet. The course will be delivered by experienced SRA faculty members who are trained by CTE in Pittsburgh, USA and are assisted through the web by CTE staff members. The courseware would be provided online directly by CTE. The course would concentrate on in-depth understanding of computer science concepts and tools like HTML, Java, C, C+ +, Visual Basic, CORBA etc. The course will begin in mid – December ’99. The distinguishing factor of this course is the active involvement of Carnegie throughout the course delivery and the student evaluation. The highlight of this course is the certification given directly by CTE to successful students.

The course includes a Basic Program consisting of Introduction to Information Systems, Computer Systems; Object Oriented Programming and Design; User Centered Design and Testing; Data Structures and Algorithms. The Advanced Program consists System Level Programming, Database Systems, Networks and Distributed Computing, Software Specification, Test and Maintenance and Software Project Organization and Management.

The course is run through 8-9 months and the performance of the student is monitored by CTE. The course would be ideal to students of Mathematics, Science or Engineering and also caters to non-IT professionals keen to switch to IT career.

Carnegie is a household name in the IT industry. Carnegie Mellon University has formulated the quality assessment model – CMM (Capability Maturity Model), after years of meticulous research in this field.
